Timeless Treasures: Collecting Vintage Clocks
A vintage collector shares tips for collecting vintage clocks and incorporating these charming time pieces into your home décor.
When artist and small business owner Giovanna Northrup was a girl, she loved spending time with her grandmother in Argentina. What she didn’t like was the incessant ticking of an old clock that kept her awake during her afternoon siesta at her grandma’s house. Who could’ve known that one day she would come to love collecting vintage clocks and even grow a thriving business based on vintage pieces.
Giovanna and her husband began their small business selling vintage-style furniture and home décor products through their farmhouse-style home studio. “I love farmhouse style because it allows our family to relax in our cozy and kid-friendly home without sacrificing style,” she says.
She continues to hunt for treasures like clocks in flea markets, garage sales and thrift stores.
To find the right clock, she looks at the shape, design and numbers on the clock’s face. She also takes her home’s color palette into consideration. “I love decorating with neutral colors, so I usually choose clocks with that in mind,” she says.
Giovanna shares photos of her vintage clock collection, which are on display throughout her home, on her Instagram account. “I style them with books on shelves, use them inside cabinets in the bathroom, display them on kitchen counters and nightstands, and add them to tablescapes.”
