Tips for Finding Vintage Lamps

Vintage lamps are a fun and simple way to add farmhouse flair to any space in your home.

For Julia Wood, home décor extraordinaire and small business owner of Olivewood Designs Lifestyle, vintage lamps provide the perfect addition to her whimsical farmhouse style. “I feel like lighting is the greatest form of ‘jewelry’ your home can wear,” Julia says. “A simple vintage lamp can add charm and nostalgia, and it acts as a conversation piece for all homes.”

Living in a small rural town in Colorado, Julia loves to source her collection from local shops. “I’m a huge vintage thrifter. I am more inspired by thrift shops and antique shops than any big box store,” she says. “My favorite store to find vintage lamps is Memory Lane in Pagosa Springs, Colorado. These pieces have a story; they hold years of conversations, family time and happiness.”

Finding the right pieces for your home can be tricky, but Julia’s keen eye for unique vintage pieces and her strong sense of her own style help her determine what lamps will be the best fit in her décor. “I choose lamps that are whimsical in nature, unique in their style—and ones that catch your eye,” she says. “I also choose lamps that remind me of my mom and grandmas’ houses.”

When it comes to styling, Julia loves to mix it up. “I style my vintage lamps on collected antique pieces and on open shelves in our kitchen,” she says. “I also love to pair my vintage lamps with more modern pieces for a collected look.”
