Project House 2023 in Utah continues despite weather delays

A deluge of bad weather has befallen has slowed the pace, but the team is overcoming obstacles in constructing Project House 2023 despite the challenging climate.

In case you missed the Aug/Sep 2023 print issue, or you’re following the full story of Project House 2023, read on for a piece of the Project House chronicles.

Snow. Water. Mud. One of the heaviest winters in recorded history recently struck Utah, and things have gotten a little slushy for The Fox Group’s speculative build; however, the design firm is ready for all challenges. And while Mother Nature has left no option other than to halt progress on some parts of project, the team is proceeding ahead on others. “Due to the weather conditions, we’ve had to halt installation on the brick for the chimneys and porches, along with the stone,” says Cara, owner of The Fox Group. “Luckily, warmer months are ahead.”

In lieu of working on the exterior, the focus has shifted to the interior. This includes finalizing the electrical and wire placement, plumbing, and heating, along with details like cabinetry and tile. Overcoming obstacles in constructing Project House 2023 involves some creative planning!

Moody Moment

Take a peek into the future of the speculative build’s interiors with this mood board for the powder bathroom.

This mood board is chock-full of warm details underscored by a rich moodiness. Cara breaks down her vision for the elegant space, showing how maximalist details can have big impact in a small room.

Edgy Elegance. Cara’s focus was on bringing a subtle moodiness and edge to the bathroom for its proximity to a more masculine-style theater room. She did this by using medium-warm gray tones paired with a darker cream color. “Gray is going to be used on the flooring, trim and countertops,” Cara says. “The cream tone will be found on the walls.” Brass plumbing and fixtures bring in even more warmth.

Over the Counter. The countertops are gray Italian Basalt. “I used the same material to create the backsplash, which adds another layer of detail and protection to the walls,” Cara says.

Timeless Technique. Vertical tongue-and-groove paneling adds subtle texture to the walls. The technique, which dates to the early 1800s, is timeless enough that it works well in both modern and traditional homes. For consistency, the tongue-and-groove concept is featured on the vanity cabinet faces. Cara added a subtle star-shaped detail for a bit more character.

Dark Floral. Cara plans on styling the bathroom with some artwork from The Fox Shop. The piece shown is called “Quietude” and was selected for its soft gray and pink floral color palette.
