Keeping it MRCOOL®

Upgrade your heating and cooling system this summer to one that will serve your home’s specific needs, without causing you to break a sweat.

Summertime means vacations, time spent outdoors with family and friends, and rising temperatures. To ensure you don’t experience an unexpected—and uncomfortable–outage, take time to service your unit. Proper care can also contribute to increased efficiency, as well as extend the lifespan of your system. The time you put in now will save you headaches and sweat later!

MRCOOL® is an American HVAC company dedicated to helping homeowners find the best heating and cooling solutions for their homes. Their DIY® Ductless Mini-Split system is a high-efficiency, do-it-yourself option for heating and cooling that is perfect for any space.

What is a ductless mini-split HVAC system?

Rather than a centralized system where the air is pushed through ducts throughout the home into various rooms, a ductless mini-split system allows localized control of heating and cooling with individual air handlers in each space. MRCOOL®’s DIY® Ductless Mini-Split system offers both wall-mounted air handlers and OuttaSight™ Ceiling Cassettes for single or multi-zone coverage. Single zones cover from less than 500 square feet to 1,500 square feet, depending on your unit size. Their multi-zone units allow heating and cooling up to five rooms at a time from a single MRCOOL® DIY® unit.

What is the DIY installation process?

MRCOOL® is dedicated to providing a swift and simplified installation process so that homeowners can take control of the heating and cooling in their homes. Their Quick Connect Pre-Charged line sets are designed to make an easy and quick transition to the system. Homeowners can customize their system to their own specific needs, taking into consideration elements like climate, sun exposure, insulation, and ceiling height.

Mindful Maintenance

Check out these helpful tips on how to maintain your HVAC unit for year-round comfort.

  • Focus on Filters: Keeping your filters clean and replacing them regularly are key to maintaining your unit. For a central system, this means changing out the filter once a month, and for a mini-split system, once a month or when it is dirty. Many mini-split filters are washable. To clean your mini-split filters, turn off the system, open the air handler, and remove the filters. Clean with warm, soapy water, rinse thoroughly, and allow to dry completely before reinserting into your unit.
  • Clean Those Coils: Your HVAC system will have two sets of coils: the condenser coils located in your outdoor unit, and the evaporator coils located in your indoor air handler. While regular changing of filters can help reduce the dirtiness of these components, they will still collect dirt over the months and years of service. Aim for a yearly clean, and be sure to clear out any growth or debris like fallen leaves nearby to allow adequate airflow and delay dirt build-up. To clean your central system filters, turn the system off, and clear debris from the condenser. For larger debris, get your wet/dry vacuum.
