DIY Dried Flower Display

Preserve your spring flowers for year-round enjoyment with a dried flower display.
If you, like homeowner Holly Blain (find her at Rustic Wild Arrow), are lucky enough to have a cut flower garden, then here’s an idea for what to do with some of the abundance of flowers for the season(s) when your flowers are few and far between.

What You’ll Need:
- Large branch
- Nails and hammer
- Fresh or dried leaves
- Fresh or dried flowers with long stems
- Rubber bands
- Twine
- Sheet or tarp (optional)
What You’ll Do:
- Decide where you want to hang the display. Open rafters in an outdoor area or pergola work, or inside on a blank wall.
- Mount the large branch horizontally on the wall, either hanging or nailing it in place.
- Divide your flower and leaf branches into bunches that you can easily tie. Place a rubber band around each bundle, then cover the rubber band with twine.
- Hang the bundles upside down from the large branch. Depending on the branch, you may be able to attach the bundles without extra help. But more likely, you’ll need to insert nails into the large branch, so the bundles have somewhere to hang.
- If your leaves and flowers are fresh, they may drop pollen, petals and other pieces of material as they dry. You can lay out a sheet or tarp underneath the display to protect the flooring until the bundles are dry in a few weeks.
