An Elegant Florida Farmhouse Embraces Spring
This elegant Florida farmhouse puts its own twist on the style with springtime décor at the forefront.
With spring in the air, it’s time to unbox all that spring décor. This is true for blogger and elegant Florida farmhouse homeowner Janet Coon of Shabbyfufu. Her elegant designs, imbued with the finesse of spring, are a testament to her craft and provide a romantic twist on farmhouse style.
Inspiration of Location for the Elegant Florida Farmhouse
Every great interior design needs a suitable backdrop, and Janet finds the perfect inspiration in the location of her home. “My husband and I have lived in South Florida for the majority of our lives, with our tropical-style home living in the suburbs and with a coastal beach-getaway home as well,” she says. Janet enjoys creating a bright aesthetic with white walls to bring out an airy and luxurious feel in every space. Although the home’s architecture itself isn’t farmhouse, Janet infuses it into her interiors, describing her style as “farmhouse, tropical, coastal and vintage—inspired all against a white background.”
Spring Day Bouquet
For spring décor, Janet looks outside for her first inspiration. “I’m drawn to nature and allow the décor to reflect what you see outside,” she says. “I start thinking of what I’ll do to freshen up a room with flowers, and the colors of blooms give me so much inspiration.” With the foundation of her white walls and furniture, she can add bright pops of color. “I start with flowers to inspire my color choices,” she says. Whether the bouquet is freshly cut wildflowers or an artfully selected bunch of faux flowers, florals add romantic, springtime color to her rooms.
Less-Is-More Décor in the Elegant Florida Farmhouse
After Janet has her focal color, she starts to add accents. “I remove all the existing accessories and sometimes rearrange the furniture,” she says. “That can give a brand-new feeling. I try to bring in a subtle look to my spring by changing out pillow covers, throws, fresh bedding and perhaps adding a new rug.” Janet refrains from adding too many accessories in order to keep the layout looking clean and elegant, as she believes “less is more.” Besides pillows and rugs, Janet adds vintage pieces, which add to the farmhouse feel. “I make sure every room in any design that I do has at least one vintage or antique thing, if not more,” she says. Janet’s simplicity in design and her use of color is a perfect look for spring.
