Gingerbread houses are a Christmas staple. You can turn them into snow globe jars with a little patience and attention to detail.
Homeowner and blogger Jennifer Svendsen of Midwest Life and Style transformed her home into a holiday wonderland with red and white stripes and gingerbread as her theme. Find out how you can replicate her DIY gingerbread snow globe jar centerpiece for your own magical holiday tablescape.
What You’ll Need:
- Christmas Village house
- Brown craft paint
- Small paint brush
- White paint marker
- Iridescent glitter
- Gallon-size glass jar with lid
- Fake craft snow
- 1-3 bottlebrush trees
- Ribbon of choice
What You’ll Do:
- Wipe down the house with a damp rag or paper towel to make sure there’s no dust.
- Make sure you have the right shade of brown paint to mimic the look of gingerbread. Jennifer mixed several shades of brown paint, including a darker shade of espresso with a lighter shade of honey.
- Paint the exterior of the house with two coats of the paint, touching up as needed. Let the house dry completely between each coat.
- Outline the trim with a white paint marker to look like icing. Add larger patches of snow to the roof.
- Sprinkle the larger patches of snow with iridescent glitter while the paint is still wet to incorporate shine
and shimmer. - Place the finished house in a gallon-size jar. Cover the base with fake snow, and then insert 1-3 bottle
brush trees. - Top the jar lid with a ribbon and tie in a bow.
