How To Elevate Your Front Porch in 4 Simple Steps (Holiday Edition)

The holiday season is the perfect time to add some festive charm to your front porch or entryway, no matter the size of your space! Whether you have a wrap-around porch, a patio at your condo, or a simple apartment doorstep, these easy and accessible tips will help you create a welcoming holiday look for you and your neighbors!

Step 1: Dress Up Your Door

Start with a beautiful holiday-themed wreath, basket, or decorative item that reflects your personality. Choose a classic wreath or something unique with holiday elements like pinecones, berries, or ribbons. For smaller spaces, consider a slim vertical basket filled with seasonal greenery.

Pro tip: Command hooks or over-the-door wreath hangers make this step hassle-free, even for renters.

Step 2: Layer Your Doormats

Make your entry extra inviting with a festive doormat. Elevate it by layering a larger patterned
mat underneath (like buffalo plaid) and a holiday-themed mat on top. This adds texture and
dimension to your doorstep.Choose mats that complement each other: a bold pattern paired with
a neutral or holiday-themed design works best!

Step 3: Add Some Greenery

  • A garland wrapped around your door frame adds a pop of color and holiday cheer. Opt
for a faux garland with twinkling lights or real evergreen for that classic look. To make
your garland even more lifelike, mix in natural elements from your own backyard. For
example, I simply cut small branches off our magnolia tree and blended them into the
faux garland. Mixing real elements with faux decor gives it a fuller, more natural
appearance, making the whole setup pop! For smaller entryways, drape the garland over
one side of the door or frame a nearby window.

Step 4: Accentuate with Lanterns or Planters

If space allows, place matching lanterns, planters, or festive decor on either side of your doorway
or along the path leading up to your door. Fill planters with seasonal plants like evergreens,
poinsettias, or even simple winter-themed arrangements.

For apartments or condos, a single decorative lantern or a slim planter will do wonders without
crowding your space or getting a pesky HOA board mad at you!

Bonus Tip: Prepare to Host

With your porch dressed up, expect compliments! Be ready to welcome guests with holiday
treats and warm conversation as they admire your front porch setup!
